Students will explore the underlying philosophy, possibilities, and challenges of the open movement and will identify quality open educational resources (OERs), including a variety of media, software, and platforms for use in their particular contexts. Participants will investigate platforms and methods for creating and collaborating on OER resource developments. Additionally, students will move toward becoming open educators: those who possess a great deal of knowledge around open/networked learning and who demonstrate emerging forms of sharing and collaboration.
● Articulate a summary of personal learning int he course in a multimedia, online format
Evidence to Support Outcome
Through every week of the course, I created a new headline newspaper page to document my learning. I also hyperlinked many of the items so I can go back and view the website or tool later. Unfortunately, my Pictochart account expired and I lost all of my digital files.
Reflection to Support Evidence
This was a massive project but I am so glad I took the project on. I learned so much in this course that I don't think I could have created a final document if I would have waited until the end of the six weeks of learning.
I decided to use Picotchart.com for this project as I had never used it before and I am learning to like to try new things. I also thought that it would be a neat way to create a visual representation of everything I was learning.
The creation of this artifact really documents everything I learned about OER's. Really... it was all new!! I started by having to google what an OER was (as you can see in week 1) and moved from there to find out where to find them, how to use them, and even went as far in my learning to find out how to create and share my own OER's.
I think that this is a very important topic for DL teachers, and even classroom teachers to explore. So much of a schools budget goes to purchasing textbooks now a days and could really be used in other places like technology. If we do the work on our end to find good resources that are free, the students will ultimately benefit from the work we do.
OLTD 505 Weekly Response / Reflection
OLTD Program Outcome Addressed
● Support the learning of classmates through discussion postings, blog comments, and social sharing activities
Evidence to Support Outcome
I created and responded to weekly blogs about the course and about other students learning. This was my first blog so I was very reluctant to put my thoughts "out there". Let me know what you think. You can find my blog here, or there is also a link to it in the My OLTD Portfolio tab at the top connected to the OLTD 505 option.
Reflection to Support Evidence
I have never been keen on Blogs or even entertained the idea of having my own. When faced with this task, I seriously considered dropping the class!! But you know what... it actually wasn't that bad :) It was about week 3 when I started to really get into it and realized that it was actually a neat way to express myself. Now, I don't know if it is necessarily a hobby that I am going to have moving forward but I really liked that my cohort could read about what I had learned and I could do the same with them. I think I learned as much from their posts as I did in my readings. This could be used as a great tool in DL if I decide to do any cooperative learning with students in the future. Students are free to express themselves and learn on a large platform.
